Best of bothDual Roller
A sunscreen and a blockout on one bracket — view and glare control by day, total darkness and privacy by night. The most flexible roller, perfect for bedrooms.
Explore dual rollers →Why roller blinds are Auckland's go-to
Roller blinds are the most popular window covering in New Zealand homes, and it's easy to see why. A single sheet of fabric rolls neatly onto a slimline tube, tucks cleanly into modern joinery, and gives you simple, reliable light control with very little to go wrong. They suit almost every room and every style, from minimalist apartments to renovated villas.
The magic is in the fabric. The same tidy mechanism can carry a blockout fabric for total darkness, an open-weave sunscreen for glare-free views, or both together as a dual roller. Every blind is made to measure in our Auckland factory to fit your windows to the millimetre, operated by chain or motor, and backed by our five-year warranty — supplied right across New Zealand.
Simple, sleek and built to last
Clean, modern look
A single flat sheet of fabric on a slim tube reads as contemporary and uncluttered, and tucks neatly into the window recess.
Light control to suit
Blockout, sunscreen or dual — match the fabric to each room so every window does exactly what you need it to.
Chain or motorised
Operate by a standard chain or motorise for remote control — and a child-safe, chainless finish on large windows.
Blockout vs sunscreen vs dual roller blinds
The mechanism is the same on all three — the fabric is what changes. Here's how the three roller blinds compare on the things people actually ask us about.
| Blockout roller | Sunscreen roller | Dual roller | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What the fabric does | Coated, tightly woven fabric that stops light passing through the blind | Open-weave screen that filters strong sun and blocks UV | One sunscreen and one blockout blind on a single bracket |
| View out during the day | None once the blind is down | Yes — you keep the outlook and the daylight | Your choice, window by window |
| Privacy by day | Complete | Good — hard to see in from outside while it's brighter out than in | Complete when you drop the blockout |
| Privacy at night | Complete | Limited — with lights on inside, a sunscreen can be seen through | Complete |
| Room darkening | Total darkness through the fabric | Softens light, does not darken a room | Total darkness on demand |
| Best rooms | Bedrooms, nurseries, media rooms, shift workers | Living rooms, kitchens, dining, home offices | Bedrooms with a view, open-plan living, street-facing rooms |
| Colours | Over 20 in our Skyler range | 14 screen colours | Mix any sunscreen with any blockout |
| Operation | Chain or fully motorised on all three — see motorised blinds | ||
| Warranty | 5-year warranty on every made-to-measure roller blind | ||

Most Auckland homes end up with a mix — sunscreens where the view matters, blockouts in the bedrooms, and a dual roller on the windows that need to do both. There's no extra charge for mixing fabrics across one order.
Which roller blind for which room
A quick guide to what we fit most often, and why.
Bedrooms
Blockout, every time. If the room also has an outlook worth keeping, a dual roller gives you the view by day and genuine darkness at night on the one fitting.
Nurseries & kids' rooms
Blockout for daytime sleeps, with a chain tensioner fixed to the wall or frame as standard — or go chainless with a motorised roller for the tidiest, safest finish.
Living & dining
Sunscreen. It takes the sting out of afternoon glare on the TV and protects your furniture and flooring from fading, without shutting out the light or the garden.
Kitchens
Sunscreen in a mid or dark tone — easier to keep looking clean than a pale fabric, and it cuts the low western sun that hits the bench at the end of the day.
Home offices
Sunscreen to kill screen glare while keeping natural light. On a west-facing office a darker screen colour cuts glare far better than a light one.
Street-facing rooms
Dual rollers. Sunscreen down for daytime privacy from the footpath, blockout down once the lights go on inside — the one window covering that handles both.
Add motorisation to your roller blinds
Any of our roller blinds can be fully motorised — raise, lower and stop at the touch of a remote, with no cords for a tidy, child-safe finish. Perfect for large, high or hard-to-reach windows, and you can run a whole room from one remote.

Every roller blind we make is built for your window rather than cut down from a stock size. These are the choices we'll walk you through at the measure.
- Inside or outside the recessFitted inside the recess for the neatest, most built-in look, or mounted on the face of the wall above the window to cover the whole opening and cut light leak down the sides. We'll advise per window — some Auckland joinery simply doesn't have the depth for a recess fit.
- Standard or reverse rollStandard roll brings the fabric down the back of the tube, closest to the glass. A reverse roll brings it down the front, which is what you want when a window handle, a deep sill or a security stay would otherwise foul the blind.
- Bottom rail finishAn aluminium bottom rail keeps the blind hanging straight and square. Choose the finish that suits the fabric and the joinery.
- Chain side and chain colourYou pick which side the chain falls on, room by room — it matters more than people expect once furniture is in place.
- Child-safety chain tensionerFitted as standard on our roller blinds and screwed firmly to the wall or window frame, so the chain can't be pulled into a loop. It's the step that gets skipped when blinds are self-installed.
- Chain or motorisedA continuous chain is simple and reliable. Motorisation removes the chain altogether — worth it on high windows, wide windows, stairwells and anywhere you'd rather run a whole room from one remote.

From bright, west-facing living rooms that need glare control to bedrooms that need genuine darkness, Auckland homes ask a lot of their blinds — and roller blinds answer in three ways. Sunscreens tame our strong daytime sun on harbour and garden outlooks, blockouts deliver real bedroom darkness in our denser suburbs, and dual rollers do both on one tidy fitting. Made in our Otahuhu factory, they're a practical, good-value choice for the apartments, townhouses and renovated villas across the region.

What affects the price of roller blinds?
Every home is different, which is why we quote rather than sell off a fixed price list. The main things that move the number: the width and drop of each window, the fabric you choose (sunscreen and blockout sit at different price points, and a dual roller combines two blinds on one bracket), chain versus motorised operation, and how many windows we're covering in one visit — multiple blinds in a single install always works in your favour.
Because your blinds come factory-direct, there's no retail margin stacked on top. The quote itself is free and takes one visit: we measure, you pick fabrics from real samples, and most Auckland homes have their full written quote within a day or two. Outside Auckland, send us your measurements and we'll quote made-to-measure supply NZ-wide.
