Blinds on the North Shore
The North Shore packs three kinds of home into one region — heritage Devonport villas, premium coastal Takapuna and the Bays, and fast-growing modern Albany — and each needs a different blind. We measure and fit them all, free in-home.
Three kinds of Shore home, three different answers
Few parts of Auckland are as mixed as the North Shore. Devonport was subdivided in the 1880s and built out in large timber villas — it carries the same Special Character Areas overlay as Ponsonby and Grey Lynn, so heritage joinery and streetscape are protected. Takapuna, Milford and the East Coast Bays are premium coastal suburbs with white-sand beaches and large view homes near the water. Albany, by contrast, is rapidly growing with big modern family homes, new subdivisions and townhouses.
So the right blind depends entirely on which Shore home you have. Heritage Devonport calls for sympathetic, period-friendly treatments; the beachfront Bays call for coastal-grade materials that shrug off salt air; and Albany’s large modern glazing suits sunscreen, dual rollers and motorisation. That is local knowledge no generic national page can claim.
What North Shore windows actually need
Salt air on the beachfront
The Shore coastline — Takapuna, Milford, the Bays, the Devonport peninsula — means salt air on a lot of homes. We use corrosion-resistant components and aluminium or faux-wood venetians so hardware does not pit or seize near the sea.
Sympathetic to Devonport heritage
Devonport’s 1880s villas sit in a Special Character zone with protected timber joinery. Painted-timber venetians, shutters and discreet rollers respect that detail — and interior blinds do not trigger the consent an external window change would.
Glare on big Albany and coastal glazing
Large north- and water-facing windows in Albany and the coastal suburbs catch strong sun. Sunscreen mesh and dual rollers control glare and UV, with motorisation for the wide or high spans modern homes love.
Blinds we make for North Shore homes
For Devonport character homes we fit custom-painted cedar venetians, shutters, Romans and discreet rollers that suit period joinery. For Takapuna, Milford and the Bays we recommend coastal-grade aluminium and faux-wood venetians with UV- and moisture-resistant fabrics. For Albany new builds, sunscreen, dual rollers, motorised and slimline systems with body-corporate-friendly fabrics.
